0248: Heddon #200, "Reliable", 6-strip bamboo casting rod. 5', 2/1, 6oz. Excellent 'tournament pattern' 4-1/2" rear solid cork grip and 2" solid cork fore-grip. Nickel-silver hosel (winding check). Heddon's premium 'Screw-tite' down-locking nickel-silver reel seat, "which holds reel absolutely tight", has an attached trigger. (Reel seat simply marked "Pat.") No hook-keep, as sold. Excellent bright nickel-silver ferrules. Salmon color wraps tipped back. All guides and tiptop are chrome plated with 'Garnix' inserts. Staggered ferrule design, with a 35" tip joint and a 26" butt joint. Custom made, sectioned, labeled canvas bag.
The staggered joint configuration was developed by Heddon to give shorter rods a fuller, smoother 'action'. The ferrule, being a stopping' point for flexure, is moved closer to the reel thus allowing the tip joint more length for flexure, i.e. 'action'.
The Heddon name spirals up the rod and the model number is inked near the hosel. This suggests the rod was issued in the mid to late 30s. Unlike the Model #200 image shown in the ad below, it has no intermediate wraps, just a couple medallion wraps.
The bamboo on this particular medium-weight rod is exceptional, with just the slightest fishing set mentioned here for accuracy. All the wraps, guides. and tiptop, are original. The only improvement is new spar varnish with UV protection, replacing the old tacky and crazed varnish ensuring many seasons of protection.
Use this beauty to wrestle in a Largemouth bass or a hefty channel catfish - or just add an early levelwind, some braided line and a red & white Daredevil spoon to make an impressive display. Excellent $140
