0261: Edwards, Bristol FB-5, Varnished 6-strip bamboo fly rod. 9', 3/2, for #5 line, 4-7/8 oz. Anodized aluminum down-locking reel seat, 6-1/4" 'torpedo' cork grip. Nickel palted ferrules. Black snake guides, Black & Orange Jasper wraps sans tipping. Ring and strap hook keeper. All joints proper length and straight. 'Edwards Bristol FB-5' is lettered in white ink on shaft along with a nearly perfect 'Bristol Built' gold diamond decal.
This mostly original 'Edwards Bristol FB-5' Bass-weight fly rod is ready to go. The 'B' in 'FB' is generally regarded as meaning a rod with more 'backbone' than typical Edwards Bristol Trout models. Most likely produced between 1932 and 1937, the original inexpensive (read inferior) down-locking plastic reel seat has been replaced by a sturdy fully anodized aluminum down-locking reel seat. (The factory plastic seat shrank, and shattered.) The ferrules are rolled welt, well fitting and in very good condition. All wraps are tight and the rod has very good varnish. The rod is supplied in a custom made, labeled replacement canvas bag, while a quality storage case is available.
Overall a pleasing, if not collector example of a Bass-weight 'Edwards Bistol FB-5'. Very good. $245
