A small 'Pioneer' script decal on the shaft leads me to believe that this Montague was built as a 'trade rod' for Bob's Sporting Goods, in Denver Colorado. Paul Hightower was responsible for the 'Pioneer' branded rods sold there, however, I doubt that he had a hand in this rod. The tip joint is very slender and has a fast action. I am inclined to think that it was made for a 4-weight line and petite dry flies.
Here's a good opportunity to introduce yourself to fishing with split-bamboo at an entry level price. This 'Pioneer' is a sharp looking rod that has been professionally refinished to look like a new fishing rod. $85
