0283: Montague, Sunbeam, Varnished 6-strip bamboo flyrod. 8-1/2', 3/1 for #5 line. 5-1/2 oz. Chrome plated 'Titelock' reelseat, mild half-Wells solid cork grip. Bright nickel ferrules. Black, hardened steel, snake guides, nickel-silver stripper guide. Strap & ring hook keeper. Blue and White, space dyed silk wraps. Original (period) cloth bag. A quality storage case is available seperately.
This early Montague Sunbeam fly rod hardware and wraps are completely original. Montague decal no longer present, inked on shaft "Sunbeam" provides the model name. Original decorative medallion wraps near the grip end of the butt joint. All joints are full length. No damage to any of the bamboo. The ferrules are all serviceable and fit well.
The original grip and wraps have been cleaned while the shaft has been stripped and re-varnished. Fish it as is or it could grace the wall of your fishing cabin. The solid cork grip has been chemically cleaned to remove years of 'fisherman's patina'. Buy it for yourself for sentimental reasons, or as a gift for your parent or grandparent. It will take them back in time to the stream where they enjoyed fly fishing the way it was. I'm passing this rod along to you at a very reasonable price so that whoever purchases it will have a reminder of what fishing used to be. Not a show stopper but not a dog either. You don't see many of these Montague Sunbeams still their original configuration, especially in an 8-1/2 foot length. Very good, $115.
