0294: Horrocks-Ibbotson, varnished 6-strip bamboo fly rod. 8'6", 3/1, #5/6 line. 5-1/4 oz. New up-locking, screw-lock with walnut spacer and black hardware. 5-3/4" 'cigar', solid cork, grip. Nickel ferrules. Brand new black steel snake and stripper guides. 'Seafoam' wraps tipped Hunter Green. No hook keeper. Custom made, segmented cloth bag with label. A quality storage case is available.
Refinished using original ferrules, new snake and stipper guides, and a brand new reel seat. I've brought the guide count up to the correct number for a rod of this length. The additional snake guides allow the fly line to use the full power of the bamboo. Note that guide count was a big cost factor when these rods were originally produced since labor was the main cost driver when pricing the product in the highly competitive business of fishing rod production.
Maker, rod and line data is inked on the shaft. All joints full length and straight. Based on the deep mahogany color, the bamboo of this Horrocks-Ibbotson rod may well be impregnated, yet it is finished with UV protective spar varnish. (A process used frequently by H-I) In addition to its classic looks, this is a way to begin fishing with split-bamboo fly rod without breaking the bank. Professionally refurbished 8-1/2-foot, three-piece fly rod now in better condition than when issued. Very-good to excellent condition. $90
