0318: Horrocks-Ibbotson, varnished 6-strip bamboo fly rod. 9', 3/1, HCH or C (#6/7 line). 6 oz. Down-locking aluminum screw-band reel seat with black plastic barrel. A comfortable full-sized 6" full-Wells solid cork grip. Rolled welt, nickel ferrules. Triple-plated chrome snake guides and tip-top. Chromed nickel-silver stripper guide. Gold wraps tipped Black. Gold and Black signature wraps. Open wrapped strap and ring hook keeper. All joints full length and straight.
This is a professionally rehabilitated 'Horrocks-Ibbottson' made rod. Any factory markings were lost over the years, however, prior to rework, remnants of a model '6655' (Winchester?) remained inked on the shaft. This could date the rod to the mid-to-late 1930s era. I've re-labeled the important rod data on the shaft. The rich caramel-colored cane along with Gold and Black wraps creates a most attractive rod.
This is a solid Bass-weight bamboo fly rod with all new guides and UV resistant spar varnish. The rod is supplied in a new custom sewn canvas sleeve, with my label. The case is a serviceable heavy cardboard case with screw cap (believed to be original). The rod may fall short of being a collector, but is a very usable classic with a premium look. Outstanding refinish bordering on Excellent. $150
