[ SOLD ] 0323: Abercrombie & Fitch, Yellowstone Special, Varnished 6 strip split-bamboo flyrod. 8-1/2',3/1, for #3/4/5 line. 5-3/4oz. Nickel-silver slide band, 5" solid-cork tapered grip. Rolled welt, nickel silver ferrules. New hardened steel snake guides, Olive wraps tipped Yellow with full length Yellow and Olive intermediates. No hook keeper as issued.
A seldom seen and desirable collectable rod. This model is shown and described in "Rod Crafting", by Jeffrey L. Hadden: "The Yellowstone Special rods are attributed to the work of F.E. Thomas." Built circa 1900-1930, the full nickel silver reel seat is stamped "Yellowstone, Special, Abercrombie & Fitch Co., New York."
This example has been rehabilitated with new guide wraps, intermediates, and signature wraps all in 8/0 silk. The cork grip has a very minor hook 'dig' due to the lack of a hook-keeper. The ferrules and reel seat are Montague design but made of nickel silver. The nickel silver reel seat is in very good condition and the ferrules all fit well. The snake guides are hardened steel snakes, while the stripper guide is vintage nickel silver with a gorgeous, genuine Agate insert. The approximately 100 intermediates are functional, and like the guide and signature wraps were all hand-wrapped using 'Gudebrod' 8/0 silk.
The bamboo is sound and each joint is full length and straight. Ferrule sizes are .278" and .174", approximately size 17 and 11. The rod finish is hand-applied UV-protective spar varnish. This example is supplied in a new custom-sewn, labeled sleeve and a brand new Landmark aluminum case with gold anodized screw cap. I'll include a printed identification label (contact me). The case can be optioned out for (-$30). Overall this rod is very good to Excellent and offered at $
