[ SOLD ] 0359: South Bend, #24, 9', Varnished 6 strip bamboo fly rod. 9' 3/2, HCH or C. #7 line. 6-3/8 oz. Up-Locking 'Lite-lock' reel seat with black anodized aluminum spacer. Very good 7", ventilated 'Comficient' solid-cork grip. Brushed chrome, nickel-silver, rolled-welt ferrules. Hardened steel snake guides, nickel silver stripper guide, and 'Perfection' style tip-tops. Black & White jasper wraps sans tipping. Strap & ring hook keeper. Custom made, labeled replacement bag. A quality storage case may be available.

Very well taken care of late 1940s vintage South Bend fly rod. Attractive blonde colored 'Tonkin Cane' with all sections straight and correct length and this South Bend split-bamboo rod shows no evidence of any past or present bamboo damage. The original silk windings are still tight and quite servicable. Well fitting ferrules, a very good grip and reel seatand open wound strap & ring hook keeper. The 'South Bend' decal is nearly 100% complete and the rod data lettering is dark and crisp.

This Steelhead/Bass action fly rod listed for $25 in 1942 (nearly $375 in today's dollars). A capable 6/7-weight fly rod with a very pleasing, moderately fast action and plenty of lower-end power. The rod carries the "Stainless" annotation, denoting stainless steel snake guides. This example would fit nicely into a South Bend Collection, or take it out fishing. VG-Excellent. $
