0386: Heddon #850 one-piece split-bamboo trolling rod. 7-3/4 oz., 4-1/2" rear cork grip, 2" cork fore-grip. Down locking chrome plated reel seat, stamped "Pat.". No hook keeper, chrome plated ferrule. Red wraps tipped back. All guides with Agate inserts. Detachable grip/handle. Tip joint 62", handle 14". No bag or case (custom sewn cloth sleeve available).
This, seldom offered, 6-foot beauty is Heddon's one-piece split-bamboo design with a detachable handle. The Model number, #850", and "Heddon" are dark and crisp. The "Heddon" name spirals up around the blank. I'm guessing this is an early 1950s build. The Heddon browntone bamboo is virtually blemish free and very attractive with multiple intermediate medallion wraps. The old varnish was removed, the guides were removed and serviced, all hardware was re-wrapped with the original color patterns. All hardware is original to the rod with the one exception being a replacement stripper guide.
Excellent bamboo with no delaminations and exhibiting only a very minor 'set' in the first twelve inches of the tip; mentioned for accuracy. Crack-free, genuine agate inserts in all guides and the tip-top. The cork fore and aft grips have been chemically cleaned and stabilized.
The reel seat trigger is absent, perhaps this was removed in order to turn the rod into a trolling rod. The handle would not slide easily into the holder with a trigger attached. I've seen this on 'Leonard' rods of the same category. The chrome reel seat is clean and bright and ready to mount your reel. Fish it or display it. Seldom offered, especially in this condition. Excellent refinish that looks close to new. $270
