0394: Heddon #900 two-piece split-bamboo Musky Special rod marked "#900 5-1/2' H". (Does the 'H' stand for Heavy?) 6" shaped solid cork rear grip and 2-3/4" solid cork fore-grip. Down locking chrome plated premium reel seat with trigger, stamped "Pat.". No hook keeper. Reenforced polished chrome ferrule. Red wraps sans tipping. All nickel silver guides with chrome ring inserts. Segmented cloth sleeve with label, no case.
This rarely offered, 5-1/2-foot "Musky Special" beauty is Heddon's two-piece staggered ferrule, split-bamboo design. The Model number, #900", "Heddon", and "Musky Special" are dark and crisp. The "Heddon" name runs up the blank. I'm guessing this is an early 1950s build. The Heddon browntone bamboo is virtually blemish free and very attractive. The varnish is original while the stripper guide was removed, serviced and re-wrapped with the original colors and pattern. All hardware is original to the rod.
Excellent bamboo with no delaminations or open seams, and exhibiting only a very minor 'set' in the first twelve inches of the tip; mentioned for accuracy. Hard chrome inserts in all nickel silver guides and tip-top. The 2-3/4" cork fore and 6" aft grips have been chemically cleaned, not sanded, and therefore look and feel great. The bright chrome reel seat has the required trigger present and is clean and bright and ready to mount your reel. Certainly capable of fishing or display.
Rarely seen, especially in this fine condition. This rod is a premium example worthy of inclusion in your 'Heddon' collection. VG-Excellent $200
